HON. DANLAMI KURFI LED COMMITTEE ACCUSES SABOTEURS OVER FUEL SCARCITY AS PROBE OF MAJOR FUEL SCARCITY DEPOTS CONTINUES.

The House of Representatives Adhoc committee investigating the operational activities of staff of the Nigerian Pertroleum Marketing Companies (NPMC), and staff of government and staff of representatives of government owned depot, has alledged that some sabouteurs are behind the current fuel scarcity being experienced in the country.

According to the committee chairman, Hon. Mohammed Danlami Kurfi, stated at the Portharcourt refinery that the investigation so far has shown that government on it’s part through the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is creating timely intervention to ease the problem in the supply chain but certain elements are frustrating the efforts.

Although, the area manager, Mrs Alesa Elema on her part while fielding questions from members of the committee revealed that the allegations of diversion of petrolum products are unfounded, as the depot provides monitoring mechanism that ensures products allocated are lifted and delivered to designated locations.

The depot manager also revealed that there has always been a shortfall in petroleum  production, due to the fact that the refinery is not working up to it’s full capacity.

Meanhwile during a visit to AITEO depot, the officials disclosed that they often act based on instructions from the headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The staff also said contrary to reports and claims by the marketers, they are serving as an intervention to ease the persisting fuel scarcity in Nigeria and so far they are meeting their set objectives.

The adhoc committee was specifically set up following a motion on the floor of the House over accusations by some independent marketers that government depot representatives were incapable of lifting and supplying petroleum products across the country on their own.
